Overview The town of Darien is in the southwest corner of Genesee County, southwest of Batavia and bordered by Erie County to the west and Wyoming County to the south. The big attractions here are Darien Lake State Park and Darien Lake Theme Park, the largest theme park in the state. Visitors flock from all over the region to take in the rides, water slides, and concerts held at the theme park and its performing arts center each summer. The state park has 1,800 acres of woodlands and meadows, a 12-acre man-made lake for boating, swimming and fishing, and 158 campsites. Wide-open spaces and country living are the regular here. The town includes part of the village of Corfu and several hamlets, such as Darien Center, Fargo, Griswold and Lehigh. You’ll find golfing at Chestnut Hill Country Club, and unique shopping at the Country Cottage Gift Shop and Gardens. The charming village of Attica in Wyoming County – best known for its prison of the same name – is less than 5 miles southeast. The village of Alexander, known for its cobblestone buildings, is less than 5 miles due east. Local Museums/Landmarks Darien is almost synonymous with Darien Lake Theme Park, the largest theme park in the state.

Essentials Darien has a few stores and family-type restaurants that cater to the amusement park crowd. For more shopping, residents head to Batavia, a quick 13-mile trip, where you’ll find stores such as Walmart, Kmart, Sears and Target. For groceries, Attica is less than five miles away and offers a Top’s Friendly markets supermarket. The closest hospital is United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. Four school districts serve residents who live here. Depending on where they live, residents are covered by the Alden Central School District (based in Niagara County, on the west side); Alexander Central School District (east side) and Pembroke Central School District (north side); or the Attica Central School District (based in Wyoming County, on the south side). The Darien Center Post Office is at 1402 Broadway. The closest library is the Corfu Free Library, just north of town.

Pros & Cons Country living, wide-open spaces and a world-class amusement park in your back yard are big draws. You’re close to both Buffalo and Rochester. Traffic can get very heavy near the theme park, particularly when big-name acts are at the performing arts center.
