Overview The Town of Pembroke is on the western edge of Genesee County, bordered on the west by the Erie County towns of Newstead and Alden and on the east by Batavia. Pembroke includes the village of Corfu and several hamlets, including Indian Falls, East Pembroke and North Pembroke. Four major highways run through the center of town: Route 5, Route 33, Route 77 and the Thruway. Once mainly a farming community, Pembroke has become more of a bedroom community for people who work in neighboring towns, with a growing business district and several restaurants, mainly in the village of Corfu. Pembroke has a well-regarded school district, with its intermediate school recognized as a Blue Ribbon School and its high school identified by Newsweek magazine as one of the top high schools in the country. Tonawanda Creek, a popular fishing spot, runs through the town. Darien Lake Theme Park, the largest theme park in New York, is just a few miles away, and Darien Lake State Park is just nine miles south. Batavia is just 12 miles east. Local Museums/Landmarks Kutter’s Cheese Factory in the village of Corfu has been attracting visitors since 1923. Kutter’s, a traditional cheese factory outlet store, has an annual open house in September for cheese and wine tastings, factory tours and entertainment. An alpaca farm, Alpaca Odyssey, is just a few miles west in Akron.

Essentials The village of Corfu has a thriving business district, with a grocery store, bank, pharmacy, bakery, family diner and pizza shop. For a wider variety of shopping, Batavia, a quick drive east, has retail like Walmart, Kmart, Sears and Target, as well as supermarkets like Top’s Friendly Markets. The village of Akron, just five miles northwest of Pembroke, has a variety of shopping options. For schools, the Pembroke Central School District is well-regarded and has received recognition from national publications. The closest hospital is United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. The Corfu Free Library, on Maple Avenue in the village of Corfu, serves residents in the area. Pembroke has two post offices: The East Pembroke Post Office on Read Road, and the Corfu Post Office at 7 W. Main St. in the village.

Nearby Batavia is the place to go for movie theaters, bowling, museums, theatre and Batavia Downs Casino and Racetrack. Batavia, just 12 miles east, also is home to the Batavia Muckdogs professional baseball team and several golf courses. For thrill-seekers, Akron has a skydiving club. Darien and Akron also have golf courses.
